Scott & Seth Avett Debut Two Songs During Q&A At The Avett Brothers At The Beach
Yesterday was a day off for The Avett Brothers, who are in the midst of hosting their second annual destination event – The Avett Brothers At The Beach at the Hard Rock Hotel in Riviera Maya, Mexico. While the full band had the night off from performing, which saw them turn the reigns over to Old Crow Medicine Show and Langhorne Slim & The Law, the band’s namesake Scott and Seth hosted an event earlier in the day. The duo used their scheduled hour and a half appearance at the Hacienda Lagoon dubbed ‘An Afternoon With Scott & Seth’ to field questions from their fans and play a handful of tunes – including a pair of debuts.
Among the topics discussed was their setlist process, about which Seth joked was sometimes just the “25-plus songs we know how to play that day.” They also talked about their approach to the curating the song selection for the weekend as opposed to their night-to-night decisions.
The brothers also used to the opportunity to weave in and out songs which included the debut of “Untitled #3” and “Songbird,” a tune from Seth’s side project Timothy Seth Avett as Darling. The pair also served up just their second take on an “Untitled #4,” which was debuted during a songwriting workshop they hosted at MerleFest last year and their cover of The Cranberries’ “Linger,” which they performed as a tribute to Dolores O’Riordan late last month in Louisville.
