Greensky Bluegrass Debut Widespread Panic Cover, Offer Poolside Set at Strings & Sol
Strings & Sol kicked off over the weekend, as the annual bluegrass summit returned to Puerto Morelos, Mexico for another round of music on the beach, and Greensky Bluegrass performed two sets at the fest so far, including a special set of covers during an afternoon poolside set on Saturday.
The previous night, the band offered a more traditional performance, headlining the main stage with a set of mostly originals, plus one surprise cover, as the band debuted their version of Widespread Panic’s “Bust It Big.” The show also featured a playful take on the “Macarena” that was fitted in after a jam within “Broke Mountain Breakdown.” Watch a video of the performance via Strings & Sol’s Facebook page below.
Saturday’s afternoon poolside set included a number of covers, kicking off with Bob Marley’s “Small Axe.” Greensky then moved into a run of Grateful Dead tunes, “Eyes of the World” and “The Other One.” The set also featured covers of Phish’s “Chalk Dust Torture,” John Prine’s “Please Don’t Bury Me,” the Allman Brothers Band’s “One Way Out” and a finale of Prince’s “When Doves Cry.” Watch a clip of the set below courtesy of Photographer Josh Timmermans (via JamBase).
See both setlists below the videos. Greensky close out their stay in Mexico tonight on the main stage as Strings & Sol 2017 comes to an end.
