Brendan Bayliss Performs Rare Solo Acoustic Set At Dominican Holidaze

JAMBASE - December 4, 2017

Umphrey’s McGee guitarist Brendan Bayliss played a rare solo acoustic set on Sunday at the Onyx Main Pool as part of this year’s installment of Dominican Holidaze. Bayliss welcomed his son Roman and Murphy Browning, daughter of UM manager Kevin Browning, to sing at various points of the set.

Brendan opened the performance with a pair of Bob Marley covers, “Mellow Mood” and “Coming In From The Cold.” The guitarist kept the reggae classics coming with “Johnny Too Bad” by The Slickers. Bayliss then teamed with Murphy Browning on “Rude” by MAGIC! Next, he pulled from the UM repertoire for the beloved “Front Porch” and went back to Marley’s catalog for “Talkin’ Blues.” From there, BB performed Elle King’s “Ex’s & Oh’s” and busted out “You & You Alone” from the forthcoming Umphrey’s McGee studio album it’s not us.

Sunday’s set continued on with “Blackbird” by The Beatles and “Two Dips,” a song Brendan wrote with Wade Wilby and Clayton Halsey. Another Beatles cover was up next in the form of “I’m Only Sleeping” before Bayliss and his son sang Marley’s “Three Little Birds.” After performing “Tuyo,” Brendan ended the set with his cover of “Debra” by Beck.
