Dominican Holidaze 2016
Breathless & Now Onyx
Punta Cana, Dominican Republic
December 1-5, 2016

For our 10th anniversarry, we has the grandest Holidaze yet! Returning to the beautiful beaches of Punta Cana, we not only took over Breathless Resort but also it's brand new nextdoor neighbor, Now Onyx. With a stacked lineup that of course featured hosts The Disco Biscuits, Umphrey's McGee, and STS9, our adventure featured additional sets from Joe Russo's Almost Dead, Lotus, Lettuce, Sphongle (Simon Posford DJ Set), The Floozies, Michal Menart, Goldroom, Manic Focus, and a Deitch Dj set! Read to to reflect on the magic that was Dominican Holidaze 2016!

Music:

Things got started up right away with an opening set from The Floozies. Their blend of electronica music was a welcome addition to the beach and set the tone for the jams that were to come! Next up was a 2 set show from STS9 and a 2 set show from the Disco Biscuits. The former featured great takes on songs like Wika Chikana, Out of this World, and Crystal Instrument while that latter opened up with a 16 minute Floes, followed up with classics such as King of the World, Confrontation, and a cover of Run Like Hell. The first day of Dominican Holidaze 2016 was off to an excellente start!

The STS9 love continued early on the 2nd day! We were treated to a sweet sequence of We'll Meet in our Dreams, Golden Gate, Give & Take, From Now On to wrap up the set just as the sun set on the mountains behind us. The evening proceeded with back to back dance parties featuring sets from Lotus and Lettuce. Talk about a great 1-2 punch! Following that was Umphrey's McGee's first show of Dominican Holidaze 2016, a classic UM show featuring Wappy Sprayberry, In The Kitchen, Bad Friday, and the first of three Beatles' covers throughout the week, I Want You (She's So Heavy).

Our third day's sunset show belonged to The Disco Biscuits, and they took full advantage of this prime time to play with sweet versions of songs like Lunar Pursuit and Jigsaw Earth, before bringing up Simon Posford (Shpongle) as a special guest for Gamma Goblins. Simon himself then kept the grooves going with a DJ set of his own before it was Umphrey's turn to take the stage again. We rocked through the evening, decked out in silver to celebrate our 10th anniversary, as UM layed down a smooth 2 set show featuring a tasty Bridgeless sandwich, The Triple Wide, a Slacker encore, and a whole lot more in between. The music didn't end there, though. STS9 played their third and final show much to the delight of us all, and blissfully ran through a setlist that included numbers such as Arigato, Monkey Music, and Blu Mood, with a nice Kamuy>Potamus>Kamuy sandwich in there. What an amazing night!

Day 4 may have been the final day of Holidaze, but the music showed no signs of letting up! Umphrey's McGee had the honors of the final sunset show, and certainly did not disapoint. 2nd Self began the set that saw two more Beatles' covers (Dear Prudence, Tomorrow Never Knows), a parrot sit in, and even the lovely sight of bandmember's kids up on stage! A few hours later, it was the Disco Biscuits' turn to play their final show. 2 sets of hot Dominican fire were highlighted by a 4-song sequence of Crickets, The Champions, Spaga, and Munchkin Invasion. Add in an On Time encore, and it was all smiles on the beach. The final set in the sand belonged to first time Holidaze artists Joe Russo's Almost Dead. Some Dead jams in paradise was the perfect way to close out the festivities, with Joe and the gang ripping through favorites such as Cassidy, St. Stephen, The Eleven, and Eyes of the World, before Shakedown Street marked the official final song of Dominican Holidaze 2016.

Extras:

Dominican Holidaze 2016 was once again a full vacation experience for both the artists and the fans! Between the beautiful weather, the resorts' amenities, and all the specially curated activites, there was always something worth doing at Holidaze. Here are some of the highlights:

After getting settled in on the first day, our second day featured a handful of extras including the annual autograph signing, some basketball in the pool with The Floozies, a Grilled Cheese Contest, and a viewing of the Lettuce documentary "Let Us Play." Not a bad afternoon in paradise!

The third day got started with some beachside yoga, before a full on foam party in the pool with none other than Mini Man! Some guests also got into some fierce ping pong as Adam Deitch and some of the other artists squared off in what is fastly becoming a Holidaze staple. Later that evening, we met on the beach for some fire dancers, live local music, and a feast to celebrate our 10th anniversary at our official Silver Ball!

Our 4th day kept the fun alive with a host of extras including Positive Legacy's charity auctions, a viewing of Umphrey's McGee's documentary "Reel to Real", before some of the Lettuce guys treated us to a special stripped down mini set at the Lobby Bar.

Lastly but surely not least, adding to the Holidaze experience were the poolside and late night sets. Michal Menart, Goldroom, and Manic Focus kept the tunes going all hours both out at the Now Onyx pool and inside Breathless' Wink Bar.

It was another Holidaze for the books! Thank you all for being a part of it.
